Remember me? I wrote a brief article on boutique hotels in Bangkok earlier as something to do to relax myself during my business trip and I am not sure what to do now as I made it to the hotel which is one of the best boutique hotels in Bangkok but if there is any real difference between this and what I know then maybe I am looking too hard or I just do not see it. As I walk around the streets of Bangkok I look around me and realise that there really is little to no green spaces anymore in this city. Remember the lyrics to that well known song that talked about paving over heaven and putting up a parking lot? Well this applies to Bangkok except it is a hotel instead of a parking lot. Yes people, I am talking about the rise and further rise of more and more new hotels in Bangkok. Now there are some truly fantastic hotels in Bangkok that you can stay in and some of them really are sublime but do we really need them like Starbucks in the sense that they are so close to each other to not be able to move? Did you know that there is a place in Bangkok that offers fascinating history, Thai cultural heritage and fantastic hospitality to boot? The name of that place is Praya Palazzo but you would be forgiven if you said that you did not know it or that you have never seen it on the banks of the Chao Praya river as it is one of those unique places that are so secluded, so special and so secret that once you discover it and its delights you will have a hard time keeping it to yourself. Continuing on from a recent post about the historical elements of Praya Palazzo it is now time to discuss exactly how such a splendid and beautiful mansion came to be. It all started back in 1923 when Bangkok was host to Italian artists who were commissioned for work by King Rama V. These artists were of a great influence to Praya Chollabhumipanish – a noble of the Royal Court Custom Department, and it was this knowledge and technique he used to build the mansion that we see today. It was originally known called ‘Baan Bang Yee Khan’ and it is a building that shows the typical Paldio architectural style that was notable in this period. (more…)

December in Thailand is a special occasion as it is the time that all Thais pay respect to the Thai king on his birthday (December 5th). To celebrate this there are many special events but none are more splendid than the royal barge procession that traverses across the Chao Praya river. This processions consists of a fleet of 52 traditional barges and 2,200 oarsmen and the procession travels from the Rama VIII Bridge to Wat Arun which is also known as the Temple of Dawn. This takes place from 3pm to 5pm.

What do you look for in a Bangkok riverside hotel? Style should be a guarantee as should first rate customer service. Guests rightly expect to have their every need tended to as soon as possible. How about amenities? Even the most luxurious hotels can be dull locations if there is nothing to do. At the Praya Palazzo Bangkok riverside hotel, no guest will ever be sat in their room wondering what they can do for the day.
How irritating is it to be told there is a swimming pool for residents only to find that half of Bangkok is in it? At the Praya Palazzo Bangkok riverside hotel, we have an outdoor swimming pool right beside the main mansion which is only available to those staying in one of our 17 rooms. The pool is open 24 hours a day and is floodlit which means you can take a relaxing dip at 4am if you wish. No need to share if you don’t want to!
Even in a city like Bangkok where you have a world of exciting entertainment options, sometimes all you want to do is relax in peace and quiet and enjoy art and literature. The Praya Palazzo Bangkok riverside hotel has its own art gallery and museum with authentic Thai artifacts from hundreds of years old on display. More erudite guests will be delighted to spend an afternoon catching up on their Thai history in our library which has hundreds of books on culture, the arts and places of interest in Bangkok. The Praya Palazzo boutique hotel in Bangkok is one of the new kids on the Bangkok boutique hotel block but we have already created quite a stir since opening in 2009. Publications in Bangkok, Thailand and beyond have already sat up and taken notice of the achievements we have made in such a short time. Since January 2010, we have appeared in 14 separate magazines with world famous publications such as Elle waxing lyrical about the way we do things, the location, the staff and just about everything else associated with the Praya Palazzo boutique hotel in Bangkok.
The hotel is actually a refurbished mansion that is almost 90 years old. These buildings have an extraordinary history and this is certainly part of the hotel’s charm. Unlike a host of other new hotels which are modern and lacking ambiance, the Praya Palazzo boutique hotel in Bangkok oozes charm from the interior to its exterior. Of course, we are fortunate to have such a canvas from which to work. In many ways, the location of the hotel makes our job easier. We overlook the incredible Chao Phraya river which is synonymous with the city of Bangkok.
